{"id":17416,"date":"2025-05-13T07:19:46","date_gmt":"2025-05-13T14:19:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.probeauty.org\/?p=17416"},"modified":"2025-05-13T07:19:47","modified_gmt":"2025-05-13T14:19:47","slug":"pba-applauds-chairman-jason-smith-beauty-industry-tax-fairness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.probeauty.org\/pba-applauds-chairman-jason-smith-beauty-industry-tax-fairness\/","title":{"rendered":"THE PROFESSIONAL BEAUTY ASSOCIATION APPLAUDS CHAIRMAN JASON SMITH FOR THE INCLUSION OF THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY IN THE RECONCILIATION PACKAGE, ONE BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Chairman Jason Smith Delivers Long-Awaited Tax Fairness Through Section 45B.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>(Scottsdale, AZ)<\/strong> &#8211; The Professional Beauty Association (PBA) applauds Chairman Jason Smith (R-MO) for including Section 45B in the newly introduced tax reconciliation package\u2014\u201cThe One, Big, Beautiful Bill.\u201d For the first time ever, small business owners in the beauty industry will be eligible to access the existing FICA tip tax credit, correcting a longstanding inequity in the U.S. tax code.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is a deeply personal moment for our industry,\u201d said PBA\u2019s Government Affairs Director, Myra Reddy, who leads the PBA\u2019s federal advocacy efforts. \u201cWith the inclusion of Section 45B, we are hopeful we may finally see tax fairness for thousands of hardworking beauty and barbering professionals.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The U.S. salon and spa industry is a powerful contributor to the U.S. economy and a gateway to small business ownership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>1.3 million professionals work in personal appearance occupations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>83% of those professionals are women<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>47% of salon businesses with payroll are minority-owned<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>69% are women-owned\u20143x the national average<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>98% operate as single-location small businesses<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The industry generates $81.8 billion in annual U.S. revenue<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>32% of workers are self-employed\u2014vs. 6% nationally<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Post-COVID, the professional beauty industry has rebounded with strong revenue growth and is projected to add jobs at twice the national rate over the next decade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is not just a tax issue\u2014it\u2019s a workforce issue, an equity issue, and a recognition issue,\u201d said Leslie Perry, Executive Director of the PBA. \u201cSalon owners across the country have been fighting to be heard. Today, they finally are. Our inclusion is proof persistent, united advocacy works.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PBA also extends gratitude to its partners at the International Salon Business Network (ISBN) for their partnership and commitment to this effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis was a true team effort. ISBN\u2019s leadership and engagement were instrumental in helping our industry speak with one voice. We are proud to stand together in this success,\u201d added Kati Rapoza, PBA\u2019s Government Affairs Manager.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bill will now go through the markup process in the House Ways and Means Committee.
